Slow Living LDN. book club: In the Flow: Journal your inner wisdom by Henny Flynn

Welcome back to the Slow Living LDN. book club, a carefully curated source of inspiration which shares the stories and learnings of those who have sought to adopt a slower, more considered lifestyle.

In our fast-paced world, where technology and demands of modern life can leave us feeling overwhelmed and burned out, the Slow Living LDN. book club invites you to take a breath, savour the moment, and explore the values and concepts of slow and seasonal living through the pages of thoughtfully selected books.

Every month, we’re excited to share a book with you that reflects these values. Each primarily non-fiction title explores different perspectives and narratives on slow and seasonal living, aiming to show how a more intentional lifestyle can improve our well-being and strengthen our bond with ourselves and the world around us.

Whether you’re already exploring the slow living movement or are keen to hear inspiration from those who have pressed the pause button themselves, the Slow Living LDN. book club welcomes you to join us as we share the power that lies within the embrace of a slower, more meaningful lifestyle.

This month, we’re deviating from our non-fiction long reads to include a wellness workbook. Below you’ll find out why we’ve chosen to include In the Flow: Journal your inner wisdom written by Henny Flynn for the Inner Work Project.

Book 6: In the Flow: Journal your inner wisdom by Henny Flynn for the Inner Work Project

The Inner Work Project is a collection of workbooks or ‘self-study retreats’ dedicated to helping individuals focus on inner discovery. Founded by publisher and writer Kate Adams, each workbook is a practical alternative to self-development books. Kate admitted she has read many such books, but then struggled to implement her new learnings.

In the Flow: Journal your inner wisdom is one of the latest workbooks published by the Inner Work Project and is written by Henny Flynn. Henny is a coach, author, podcaster and retreat host who supports those who wish to make lasting and profound change in their lives. Her mission to help others is inspired from navigating deep change in her own life after facing critical illness following her corporate career of twenty years.

Throughout the workbook, Henny shares her insights around the process and benefits of flow journaling and offers prompts and meditations to help readers try this mindful practise of free-flowing expression.

Reasons to complete In the Flow: Journal your inner wisdom

We loved how Henny explains that “when we Flow Journal, our brain slows down” because we simply can’t write as fast as we think. Taking a few minutes, and a few is all you need each day, to journal your thoughts and feelings led by the prompts in the workbook, is to truly slow down. It’s a rare opportunity in our fast-paced world to reconnect with yourself and notice how you’re feeling without censoring your thoughts. It’s a simple act, but it can be powerful. We need to slow down to be able to truly listen and hear our inner voices.

“When we Flow Journal, our brain slows down”

Henny Flynn

The stream of consciousness we experienced when using the journal was freeing and often left us feeling a greater sense of clarity after downloading our thoughts. At Slow Living LDN. we believe that slow living is a mindset whereby you create a more meaningful lifestyle that’s in line with what you value most in life. In this sense, the act of flow journaling can also help you find or rediscover what’s truly important to you and recognise signs of burnout or lack of fulfilment. It’s also a useful tool to find calm when you’re navigating challenges, or a way to dive deeper during moments of creativity and inspiration.

Henny’s tone is kind, grounded and accepting of individual approaches when flow journaling, giving the reader space to make the practise their own. She also acknowledges the challenges that can impede our best intentions to journal regularly. For those new to flow journaling or those who wish to reestablish the habit, In the Flow: Journal your inner wisdom is a friendly helping hand to guide you. It also doesn’t hurt that the Inner Work Project’s workbooks are rather aesthetically-pleasing, in addition to being clearly laid out and logical to follow.
